I don't like the sound of that. Makes me think of when Martinez wasn't sparring. It was cause the wheels were falling off.

So he spars 75 rounds per fight, or 75 in total for those 6 fights?

I can understand that. Taking it easy in training when you're older has been proven very effective. As long as they prep for the opponent correctly.

75 for each fight. If it was 75 total and sparring 9 days for a fight he'd only be doing 1 or 2 rounds on sparring days.

Golovkin's sparring is just cut down but he still spars hard when he does so he's still getting the feel of taking a punch. Martinez wasn't sparring at all though, and his punch resistance may have been faded vs Cotto as a result.

This is the new fade in combat sports, less wear and tear in gym, save the brain to maintain reflexes and durability in the long run. Trust me, this is a good thing.

As much ring time as Golovkin's had over his life, he's not learning new things he's just maintaining his abilities at this point.

Don't want to leave it in the gym. More important to rehearse specific moves and strategies.

I'm sure when you're older you'll say you were able to eat anything and not gain an ounce back in the day. He's older. You can't do **** the same as when you were younger. Doesn't mean he's slipping at all. But what do I know. We got someone here who used to spar however long ago.
