I don't know why Chavez bet his money, its almost certain Canelo will beat him, Ik he's the bigger guy and all but Canelo is the greatest fighter at the moment

It's very rare when a boxer pays a bet to another boxer. It's so easy not to pay and there isn't anything the winner of the bet can do about it. An honorable man pays his bets even when he doesn't have to.They need to have a mutually trusted 3rd party to hold the money and give it to the winner of the bet.

Fighters usually agree to these 'winner takes all' bets to create hype, get more people interested. It's a smart move and creates intrigue.

Ali never crossed the ring and told Frazier he was the greatest after he beat him in the first fight.
