i think this would be a good match up..it depends on how collazo wants to fight..if he wants to slug it out cotto would KO him..if he wants to box cotto will eventually get to him and win on points
collazo vs cotto who wins and why?

it depends. Cotto will be methodical like always and try to cut off collazo and work him to the body. however, Collazo showed he can deal with that strategy pretty effectivly and also showed he can punch a bit too, which isnt good for cotto, esp if that were to be in his first fight at 147.
Im not sure what would happen, but if i were to put money on it, id favor cotto, no question.Comment

The better fighter with skill, but that doesn't always mean he wins. In boxing, you have to measure the intangibles as much as the physical attributes.Originally posted by JuicyJuiceThey fight in different weight divisions.
But Cotto is the better fighter, no question.
There is no question that Cotto has the superior talent. He has a sledge hammer left hook to the body, fluid boxing skills, and power in both hands. But Collazo is the better schooled, quicker, and tougher fighter. This is a hard pick, and we will know better after the Malignaggi fight what Collazo's chances are.
I will tell you this, Collazo is very similar to a fighter who gave Cotto hell, Demarcus "Chop Chop" Corley. Collazo and Corley are both slick southpaws who throw combinations well and have decent pop in their shots. Collazo is a much hungrier and consistent fighter than Corley. I personally think that Collazo could either outbox Cotto or knock Cotto the **** out. Collazo is not the biggest puncher, but he has the stuff to capitalize on Cotto's less than sturdy chin.Last edited by Mr. Ryan; 05-18-2006, 09:53 PM.Comment

Actually you gotta look at the Corley fight again. Corley was dominated in that fight up until that he caught Cotto with that 1 bomb. Other than that Cotto pretty much dominated Corley before the bomb and the rounds after the bomb.Comment

I've seen that fight many times. While Cotto was dominating, he was getting caught at will by Corley's big shots. Corley weighed in at 138 and went up to 140 over night (WTF?Originally posted by Left2bodyActually you gotta look at the Corley fight again. ), while Cotto went up to 155 overnight. Corley was simply too small to be effective in a a sustained fashion against a fighter the size of Cotto. Corley had him hurt, but as he has shown in previous fights, is not a good finisher.
Collazo is a bigger fighter and more consistent. If he gets Cotto hurt, his accurate punches and southpaw power will put him into position to put Cotto away and back to the world of ESPN and Telefutura cards.Comment

Cotto was only hurt in the Corley fight becaus ehe suffered a broken eardrum. Which would effect any fighter. Also Cotto was weak from draining weight, have you ever seen the weigh in photos from that fight? Cotto will be much better at 147.Comment

I've watched the fight more than a couple of times aswell and don't see what you see. I don't see this landing at will, if he was landing at will he would've had Cotto out of there when he seriously hurt him.Originally posted by Asian SensationI've seen that fight many times. I do however think your right in that a slick boxer with pop can give Cotto some trouble but Collazo is not quick enough and doesn't have enough pop. It would be someone more along the lines of Zab who could give Cotto a real problem. I certainly dont think Paulie would be an indicator as to how Cotto would handle a slick boxer either. Paulie doesn't have enough pop to show us how Cotto would stalk and cut off the ring on a real puncher. When you dont really fear the other guys power you can be cavalier and reckless when cutting off the ring.Comment
