Minutes ago, Yvon Michel was on the radio in Montreal (91.9 FM) to promote Bute vs Alvarez but took couple of minutes to discuss the Stevenson vs Smith situation.

Basically, the issue is that Smith's camp want to control the event. They want the fight in NY with a share of the concessions revenue, gate revenue and they insist on having a rematch clause.

Here is a except from a Montreal newspaper about this issue (in french):
"Adonis n’avait pas peur d’affronter Smith fils. Les négociations ont frappé un mur, car Joe souhaitait avoir le contrôle sur une partie des revenus de l’aréna et de la billetterie en plus de vouloir une clause de combat revanche, a indiqué Michel. Are you kidding? Joe smith is a big name in NY hence why this fight was going to be in NY. Look at the ratings in his fight with B Hop and now hes a bona fide star after what he did to B Hop. Stevenson is just like every other haymon fighter who want to fight mediocre competition and a little less pay

Joe Smith isn't just an opponent. If the WBC wanted they could push for this fight and name him mando to the duck.
