Comments Thread For: Top Rank's duBoef Defends Lomachenko Fighting in Smaller Venues

Vasyl Lomachenko's drawing power in the United States hasn't quite caught up with his incredible boxing ability. Lomanchenko's next fight will take place in another cozy venue, which can accommodate roughly 3,000 fans for boxing. The highly skilled Ukrainian southpaw is scheduled to return to the ring April 8, when the two-time Olympic gold medalist will defend his WBO world super featherweight championship against Jason Sosa.

Just say he doesn't draw a lot of people, it's ok, boxing is naturally a niche sport today and lomachenko is a Eastern European dude who doesn't speak English much and can't attract casuals

He couldn't sell out a Local gym. Lol remember how y'all did Andre Ward for years saying he couldn't sell tickets.

Sucks but boxing needs a villain right now!.

Closest who could do it is Jermall Charlo and Tyson Fury!

Broner is a character but he's been toned down to the point where his interviews have become boring a bit!

Lomachengo doing the right thing by fighting guys who are world champs and solid fighters but hopefully he picks up on English more, he's gotten better but may take him another 2 years to really get him attract casual fans!

Most fighters that have only 8-10 fights are fighting in small venues. That he can fill a 3,000 seat arena is not a negative.

When are newer fans going to understand that you don't just start out in front of 5-10k fans.

Americans dont support boxing anymore, they are just hating and complaining about fighters.

Loma will always be a casino fighter in the USA. Arum is moving him along quickly because his only real selling point is his skills, so he needs to be catapulted to P4P status as soon as possible

                I like Lomachenko.

But you are right, certain posters on here love to take shots at Andre Ward for not being a draw. Yet he has gotten crowds of around 10,000 in Oakland several times.

yeah, but Ward is how many years into his pro-career? And his home town is Oakland?
loma is 3 yrs into his pro career and he is fighting 6000 miles away from his hometown.

It doesn't matter, any fighter that manages to draw that much in the current American boxing market should be praised not **** on.

Same goes for Crawford in Omaha.
