jacobs sounds like he's trying to convince himself and is not doing a good job in doing so.

Difficult even if the forum wasn't populated with some trolls and idiots. This is why there is almost never agreement on a #4# top 10 list. Or even the word "elite".
Take "elite". If you use club fighters as a yardstick then nearly all top ten in-their-weightclass fighters should be considered elite. But if you measure only pro fighters against other pros - then maybe only unified champs and multi weight class champs are elite?
Now if you start to look at it historically that really clouds the issue. If we say sweet pea was elite then we can't, for example, say Broner is elite.
Then we talk about A/B/C classes. If Ward is A class and Mayweather was A+ then where does that leave Golovkin? He looks the part against lower class fighters. But so does Jacobs.
Golovkin's resume is better overall than Jacob's. Quillen may be better than any fighter on Golovkin's resume but Murray, Lemieux and Brook are better than the rest on Jacob's resume.
Golovkin looks more dominant in his fights. Sure he gets hit but that is largely down to his style. A come-forward pressure fighter counter-puncher will always be hit more than a boxer.
So - longwinded but got here. I have Golovkin at B+ and Jacobs as a B fighter. Whoever loses will lose credibility, especially Golovkin. I would say they swap grades if Jacobs wins. Jacobs will be seen as B+ and Golovkin as only a B.
To shore up his new status as a B+ fighter, Jacobs would need to consolidate with another good victory.
Also, to a large part, the manner of the victory will play on their reputations going forwards.Last edited by SteveM; 02-15-2017, 08:17 AM.Comment

The reason people can't agree on P4P lists or who rates as an elite fighter is because it always comes down to opinion. Another thing is that "facts" in boxing are never black and white. Take something as simple as an undefeated record. You have to ask who did the undefeated fighter fight, at what weight and was the other fighter close to his prime or years past it?
I think your analysis of Golovkin and Jacobs is good but I'd make GGG an A level because he's beaten the best of the MW division and his string of KO's is noteworthy.
Danny's first round stoppage of Quillan was impressive but first round KO's are hard to base any thing on. Did Jacobs just catch Quillan cold?
Other than Quillan and Mora, Danny's resume is really thin so I'll give him a B- .
Of course this is all IMHO

Wishful thinking on Danny's part, he needs to believe there's an edge in his favor somewhere to give him more confidence.
Loeffler's always working on the next fight before the current fight in done, but I can understand that's a foreign concept to someone like Jacobs who likes to have atleast 6 months in between his fights.Comment
