He's not active and certainly isn't the greatest counter puncher of all time. Not even the greatest of his era, Mayweather is.

How can you guys not agree Ali was the best counter puncher?

The man made the anchor punch against Sonny Liston!

Not only that, I'm sure Mayweather Jnr copied his counter right from Ali!

If Marquez is still active then it's him.

Mayweather was the best of his era.

The greatest counter puncher of all time is definitely Jose Napoles.

There's loads of great counter punchers. Salvador Sanchez, Willie Pep, Benny Leonard, James Toney, Harold Johnson, Tony Canzoneri, Pea, El Radar, Duran, etc.

Put Jose Napoles at the top of that list.

                    Active: Rigo

All time: hard to say, too many options. Toney, Marquez, Benitez, Floydette, etc

That been said, there are different types of counterpunchers

There's the agressive counterpuncher - he'll counter you no matter what, even if he gets hit in return. Marquez is probably the best example of this style. These fighters look at their best against agressive opponents

and there's the pussay counterpuncher - he'll counter you only if he thinks it's perfectly safe to do it, therefore, he'll take less damage than the agressive cp. This gives off the illusion that he's more skilled, which may be or may not be true. Floyd is the best example of this boring style. This kind of fighters look at their best against slow as **** fighters

active, i'll go with rigo and i think his opponents reinforce this when they stop throwing as they know they are going to get counter with precision, of course his lack of offense sucks

jmm has always been a great counter puncher, he was considered a little boring before he started fighting the pacquiaos, salidos, barreras, rockys, cepillos, etc, i enjoyed how he ends exchanges with a left hook all the time
