Andre Berto had the golden chance to become the modern-day Buster Douglas when he fought Floyd in 2015, but he blew it. Oh well. There's always McGregor...

Buster Douglas was actually a pretty skilled fighter. He had all the tools, the only thing is his desire and motivation weren't always there.
Tyson had degenerated by the time of that fight, though. Was engaging in too much extracurricular activity and had gotten rid of Kevin Rooney who was the last link to the Cus D'Amato training routines that made him great.
And even then Mike still almost won the fight.Comment

Wasn't even into sports yet. Too young. Just remember my oldest brother coming home with a radio in his hand from his security job saying Tyson lost. I was like OK. Course years later I realized the importance of it.Comment

Dude, thank you. You saved me some time and health in sparing me from writing almost the same damn thing. You said it exactly right. Whatever he was before or after, Buster was truly awesome on that one night, but not because he got lucky as a lot of people (people who weren't alive back then apparently), but because he had real skill and talent. No comparisons at all to be made with Wlad, who in 20+ years in the sport never learned a damn thing. What the hell you talking about lol...on that january night douglas was an all round superb boxer with incredible footwork and landing super quick jabs and blinding combinations and with that kind of boxing klitchcko has never possesses that kind of blueprint to beat him ....after gaining more experience he might be able to lean on him and octupus his ass to victory but thats his only way of beating...i watched purity, sanders and brewster walk right through him as a young fighter and if he was that kind of fighter in with tyson he also would have been blitzedComment

Got a chance to watch this fight again for the first time in a couple of years, as it was shown on ESPN here in NZ. Man, Buster had it all going that night, he boxed out of his skin. I know Tyson was having his problems, and they were hamstringing him in this fight but...Buster doesn't get enough credit for how good he was that night.Comment

I watched it live in the middle of the night at a licensed pool and snooker hall....i was in my late teens and i was shocked and amazed with the skill douglas showed that night and what made it even more stranger was they boxed in the afternoon in tokyo and there was no atmospehere and you could every movement they made in the canvas and every punch landing.....buster douglas on that night was magnificent and sent shockwaves around the world which i remember to this dayDude, thank you.
