I get it that you just love Ward to death and desperately want to convince this board that Ward won the fight and will win the rematch even easier. You are in the minority who think Ward deserved that win. Polls have been done and about 76% of fans and boxing writers think Kovalev was the rightful winner. About 12% thought the fight was even and remaining minority of about 12% agree with you that Ward deserved the win.As far as who was responsible for all the holding, wrestling and clinching, Ward is the boxer who is famous for using these tactics. Krusher initiated every clinch, he had no inside game and no answer. Kovalev was far from confident as he began to tire, look at his reaction at the end of ten, far from that of a confident man.

I didn't care for ward going into the fight I never said anything bad about him I actually thought he would win if he survived but he didn't and you could see the look of defeat on his face after the final bell and the way he has handled everything post fight is just pathetic.

As I said how could either be confident, the fight was in the hands of god so to speak.

I had Kov winning by 1 point but Kov has to be more concistent. Ward boxed very nicely to make a comeback. Still, like ALOT of people I had Kov winning because of the KD. Cutting off the ring more and working that power jab would be a great start. Hope this rematch happens so we can have a clear winner.


PS: the question is good, but why r u so insecure and have to try to insult people wgo thought Kov won. Does that bother u that much? Does it bother u that some people like GGG? It was a thread abt Kov and u had to bring up GGG.. why?

Kovalev should come in in an even better shape and he should be generally more busy especially with the jab which was working for him very well everytime he used it, other than that he fought a brilliant fight the first time and if he considers the points I mentioned he'd win rather easily. Him fading late and quantity vs quality cost him the first fight.

Ward was the biggest fight of his career, do you really think he went into the ring in anything other than his best shape. If he doesn't want to tire again, he needs to identify why he gassed. He didn't run out of gas because he entered the ring in poor shape, he ran out of gas because of the body punches.

Spending time working on his physique wouldn't prevent the body punches which means he'd end up in the same position as the resulting fatigue cannot be prevented.

Same **** with the jab. Jab is a great tool but Ward is a great fighter. Eventually he is going to make his way inside and Kov is going to need answers for that.

If Kov wants to win, I think he should work on his punch variety. Ward shouldn't be in a position where he feels the only threats are from straights which he can slip, catch, and not worry about on the inside. He needs to consider uppercuts on the inside and hooks as he is making his way in.

I think the rematch is winnable for Kov. Providing he does the right things, it will be easier for him to stop Ward from getting comfortable enough to grind out rounds than it will be for Ward to stop Kov from winning rounds than with his range and power.

you are unbiased then you say he initiated every clinch when there's tons of video of ward initiating clinches and grabbing one of kovalev's arms and hitting with the other? remember when ward tried to tackle kov in the third...that wasn't a clinch though it was a tackle semantics! just watch the video i posted and you can see ward is locking up kovs arms as much or more

truth is they were both clinching at different points. ward was trying to work his usual hold and hit strategy and kov was trying to stop him from doing it so he clinched.

This is a topic where no one will ever agree I feel a more conclusive winner benefits the threads but who's to say its anything other than another razor tight fight. Some fights just play out this way.
