Comments Thread For: Top Rank Fortifies Future With Olympic Signings

As BoxingScene.com reported earlier today - Shakur Stevenson, who was the most highly regarded member of the 2016 United States Olympic team, has found a promotional home. It was announced on Thursday that he had inked a deal with Top Rank.

Ring Star, Top Rank, Matchroom, and Frank Warren did damn good jobs retooling and for Ring Star starting their promotional companies.

Props to these companies. Now hopefully they do right by these guys and find the right platforms to showcase their talents.

Is there any more top talent left from this past Olympics unsigned still?

A proper statement from Top Rank. Just from the way Stevenson conducted himself after the Olympics I'd never have thought that he'd sign up with Bob.

If a guy is the goods it will generally work out no matter where they go. I do kind of question what Top Rank will do with these guys because they need a more mainstream outlet than Unimas to really maximize a prospect like Conlan or Shakur so HBO will want them.

If Arum can secure a real outlet for his prospect to get shine that will work just fine. The other issue is Arum has relied a lot on HBO to help in building his stars and I am unconvinced that is a workable model unless HBO picks it up. However, having more guys does make Arum much more attractive to actually deal with.

I listened to a few interviews with Conlan where he discussed his reasoning for going with Top Rank. The track record is a big thing. They can point to a lot of guys that they have taken from the Olympics to world titles. I also think the speed at which guys like Lomachenko have been moved really appeals to them as well. They don't want to hear that they're aiming at a title shot five years from now. They want to be told that's a 2-3 year timeframe and Top Rank must be telling them that.
