A Fabulous 4 in the welterweight division. Something to talk about in the future history of the sport of boxing. Cotto could be Hagler (If he destroys Marquez), Pacquiao could be Duran, Marquez could be Hearns (for his KO victory of Pacquiao) And SRL would be Mayweather.

At least a welterweight version of them.

Dude marquez is beyond finished and a win over him would be next to meaningless for cotto unless marquez was to come back and look decent in a couple tune ups.

What's crazy is that we could have had a round robin in the welterweight or super lightweight division with these four years ago, but Bob Arum kind of prevented that from happening

They're barely relevant to the future of their respective divisions and a catch-weight makes them fighting even more irrelevant. It would be an interesting fight but it doesn't set up any Fab 4 scenario at all...

If this happened a few years ago, THEN you'd be onto something.

Agreed. It is too late, but at lease it sets something.

I wish we'd had that for this generation, but man, I can't say it's the same. With the fab four, you had Duran-Leonard I, Leonard-Hearns I, Hagler-Hearns- three classics. With the new group, the fights just haven't been as epic. Pac-Cotto was a good scrap, but it was pretty clear who was going to win after a few rounds. Pac-Maquez's first fight was good, but the fourth fight was great. That was worthy. But Mayweather's fights with the three all were so-so, especially the Pac fight. Cotto-Marquez could be interesting, but this isn't fab four level.

Now, had Marquez and Morales fought in their primes, then you'd have the Pac/Morales/Marquez/Barrera foursome. You had Pac-Marquez I and IV, Barrera-Morales I and III, Pac-Morales I and II, a lot more material to work with IMO. Unfortunately, Marquez and Morales never fought.

... Floyd beat Marquez, Cotto, and Pacquiao, handedly.

I don't think it is an important fight now .Cotto is just wanting a big money fight or two before he retires. He only fights once a year and I don't think his heart is in boxing anymore. He has one foot out the door already. Marquez is way over the hill and should just stay retired. Both of these guys are used to getting their own way and drive a hard bargain. I doubt they will ever agree to terms and fight.

PAC in 2 Fab Four ... PAC fought everybody, evident of his titles in 8 different weight divisions.
