Ronda Rousey is the second biggest draw in UFC. Ronda proved there is a market out there for women in combat sports. This is a smart move by Showtime.

I wonder why they're having it in Detroit instead of Flint? I think I'm going to this one.

Claressa Shields is a two time gold medalist and the obvious headliner here.

Not much different than Michael Conlan headlining in NYC.

Showtime is trying to take a page out of UFC's book by headlining female fighters. It's just not going to work though... This is a disaster.

But MMA has a sex appeal factor that boxing doesn't have. Female MMA fighters wear tight apparel that accentuates their features, they don't wear boots and loose shorts. Also, there's the act of having women roll around on the ground that a lot of people prefer over standing and boxing.

At the end of the day you're presenting this fight to a predominantly male audience. So sex appeal is a huge factor and one of the reasons female boxing just hasn't taken off as much as MMA.

Heather Hardy has built a good east coast following without using sex appeal. She sells out shows. The market is there. Just needs someone to push it.

Claressa Shields is young so she should try boxing and at some point transition into MMA. That's where the future of women's combat sports lie. You have Kick boxers and Muay Thai fighters transitioning into MMA. Holly Holm is fighting a champion kick boxer in her next fight.

The only problem with Claressa though is she fights at 168 and the highest UFC weight class is 145. If she's willing to cut weight, that's where she should go.

I love it! I actually have to thank Ronda for opening the door to women's combat sports. It's blossomed to Shields getting her chance to make a mark.

What a waste of showtime's budget. PC bull**** being put ahead of good business practices yet again. What political correctness are you referring to? Shields is an Olympian and can flat out fight, doesn't she deserve a shot at a pro career? Besides, most women's fights (Boxing and MMA) end up being pretty entertaining...
