Question: How do megafights in Germany end up on free TV?

For example, Klitschko vs Haye. That fight aired on RTE in Germany, which is a free mainstream tv channel.

Is the viewership that high, that they are able to generate revenue from advertising alone? How does the Germany Klitschko model actually work?

I dont believe they do the PPV model out there, I could be wrong. All of Klitschkos fights and everyone else seems to be on free TV

Probably the way major sports still do it in the states; advertiser revenue instead of collecting directly from the fans.

Over 16 millions viewers in Germany.

That's worth alot in ad revenue.

Very roughly a viewer in a 1st world country is worth 60c per hour in revenue so that's up to $20mil over a 2 hour show for 16mil viewers

            Germany's just showing they're not a heartless/cruel country anymore.

Can you imagine charging people to watch Klitschko/Povetkin

Klitschko was tied into a contract. He lost out on that fight but made up for it making decent money fighting bums.

RTL places massive value on their relationship with Wladimir Klitschko, and is willing to put up the money. No different than CBS seeing the value in putting up the money to stage Thurman-Garcia.
