Comments Thread For: Photos: Chris Eubank Jr. Beats Down and Stops Renold Quinlan

Chris Eubank Jr. wins the IBO world super middleweight belt with a tenth round technical knockout of a durable Renold Quinlan. The enigmatic Brit (23-1-0, 18KOs) had the champion in trouble several times on his way to capturing the lightly regarded world title in his first fight at the 168 lbs limit.

Is this supposed to be an impressive win? A guy with 12 fights?

Here's a guy who takes two year lay offs like there 2 week vacations!

Winning over Danny Geale at 168 isn't that impressive and for that matter I think Juniors opponents aren't anything to brag about either.
I like his style and he has talent but hiding at 168 like Frosh, Ward and Kessler and the rest just doesn't impress me.
The "Junior" weight classes should be for "growing, novice" fighters. Young men who are still growing into their maturity weight.

Best part is Eubank Jr. hadn't fought in 8 months vs a 3 month Quinlan, OR, even better, those circumstances and still got ITV. there's no such thing as ring rust or criticizing long layoff in boxing. nope, never heard of it!

Nothing wrong with legit tune up bouts off injuries or sustained time outs. Eight months seems to be the norm these days in between bouts.
I think he has talent but the father & son combination is usually doomed once you have a chance to step up. Family in business doesn't have to be a problem but it can become a big one very quickly.

Eubank should be in great shape considering all the running away he does avoiding real world class opponents. So far his greatest asset has been his mouth and feet. Now all the talk about GGG, LOL! Closest he'll get to a prime time GGG is ringside if he buys a ticket.

So now should we rate Eubank jr. high, because he beat guy with 12 pro fights? For IBO belt? Are you joking?

I think Eubank will be all mouth. The way they ran from Golovkin said a lot. A lot of hot air and a couple of cash-out fights is the strategy. It's the strategy that a lot of UK fighters seem to be pursuing now, once they hit a certain level of fame. Eubank will be even more annoying than Haye, because unlike Haye he won't be all that good either.
