I don't have a problem with this fight, even though stylistically, I think Cotto is a pretty tough match-up for JMM. Either way, both guys are at similar stages of their careers. Cotto wants one more monster payday with Canelo. Beating a name like JMM probably makes that happen later this year. JMM wants one more big payday, without fighting Manny again. Cotto is the only realistic possibility to make that happen. Neither guy is relevant in the overall boxing landscape right now. So they're perfect for each other.
I do hope JMM is able to take a tune-up fight before getting in with Cotto though. Unless he's more injured than we're being told. And doesn't want the strain of an extra training camp. And if that's case, this fight is basically nothing but a cash out similar to Cotto-Martinez.Comment

Seems the Kirkland cancellation is a blessing in disguise for Cotto, now that he can laser-focus on the JMM fight.
No doubt the Marquez fight makes him toss and turn in his sleep every night. It's not only inspiring but lucrative and legacy defining, especially for a guy who is in his last league of his career. He knew he could still make 147 if he wanted to as he's not like those fighters that get unbelievably fat like Maidana, Saunders and others when they're out of the ring. I think this fight will happen at 148-149.Last edited by al-Xander; 02-04-2017, 10:01 AM.Comment

It's not like Cotto will be fighting JMM with zero disadvantage. Unless you think Cotto is still invincible at this stage of his career.Comment
