  • Comments Thread For: Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. Will Take Place at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas

Last week, Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya gave a very strong hint that he was leaning to Las Vegas as the location of choice for the HBO Pay-Per-View battle between Mexican superstars Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. On Friday, Canelo announced that his fight with Chavez Jr. was taking place at Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena. The move comes as no surprise as BoxingScene.com reported earlier this month that Golden Boy had placed the venue on hold.

Canelo likes fighting in Vegas. I don't know how much Chavez has fought there.

Damn. I was hoping Jerry Jones would actually win for once.

Oh well so much for affordable tickets instead they will end up donating the tickets that don't sell.

My guess is Vegas isn't doing great business anymore normally, except for big fight weeks, so their demand for big fights is bigger than ever. They are basically willing to outbid everyone else every time because they have a greater need than anyone else. These big fights bring in tons of rich dudes to the Casinos, so even if Vegas has to bid 10 million, it's still worth it for them if they make 30 mil at the Casino that night as a result.

Just my guess. It sucks though because this would be a much better fight in Texas.
