Andre Ward publicly said, on ESPN after Golovkin walked away from his fight offer, that he basically walks around at about 180lbs; Sergey Kovalev, according to whispers about him, walks around near 200lbs.

Still, with the way that Ward has been schooled in the game (and the physical gifts that came with his genetics), Ward has heightened sheer physicality in the ring, allowing him to muscle well beyond what his frame would have you suggest.

I completely agree. But I remember saying to myself, "Kov is going to be shocked at how strong Ward is"

And as soon as the fight started, Kov effortlessly pushed him around in the clinch and forced him to the ropes.

But you make an excellent point; That may have tired Kov down the stretch!!

Other evidences seem to say otherwise and disagree with you.

Apparently he also said that it is hard for him to make 175.

Ward might have a bit more meat on his bones but they're very close to the same size. Very close in height also.

Andre Ward has trouble making 175.

Oracle Arena, Oakland, Calif. - Former super middleweight champion Andre Ward (30-0) dominated Alexander Brand (25-1) over 12 rounds to set up a November 19th HBO pay-per-view showdown against Sergey Kovalev (30-0-1).

The interview was done July 2015; the earliest mention of anything in regards to Ward having "difficulty" at making 175lbs was an August 7th 2016 article on this very site (with already having put three light heavyweight camps under him).

And even in that article, Ward made it clear that he can make the weight without doing anything outlandish.
