I knew Kell Brook was going to be a special fighter 7-8 years ago when he was just annihilating all of his competition in England. Dude was literally schooling/toying with the best fighters his country had to offer. His punches looked short and effortless but guys were falling left and right.
Watching him beat on Hatton in a way that no one has ever done, I turned and said to my brother right then and there- "This British kid is gonna take over boxing once Floyd/Manny are gone."
Man, I had high hopes for this guy.

But it was frustrating to see Kell struggle to get a big fight. However, in 2014, he finally got the opportunity to challenge an undefeated Shawn Porter for the IBF Belt. Porter was coming off scary wins over Alexander and Malignaggi, and was deemed the "Mike Tyson of the Welterweight division".
The fight took place in Porter's backyard in Carson, and no one gave Kell Brook a chance to even survive. But I and a few others who knew boxing, knew Brook was going to beat Porter, for Brook's boxing skills were truly special.
The rest is history, after a close first 6 rounds, Brook gave Porter a boxing lesson in the 2nd half of the fight, and won the belt despite Porter's wild and dirty tactics.

The hometown judges called it a MD, but I had it 9-3 Brook. Porter couldn't land a single clean shot the whole fight.
For a while everything seemed perfect, Kell Brook had finally become the champion that I knew he would be. Dude had a world title, a gorgeous wife, and was a hero in his country. Kell Brook was on top of the world.

And then came the machete attack. Kell nearly got his leg hacked off and several major arteries were severed. He nearly died. I thought his career was over. But somehow, he came back like the true man he was. He proceeded to destroy his next 3 opponents, now you can question the quality of these opponents but NO ONE has stopped Gavin/Dan the way Brook did. Fact is, if Brook had fought Danny Garcia, Danny would have gotten his brains knocked out.
And just when everything was back on track again, Kell decided to THROW AWAY his entire career by jumping up 2 weight divisions to fight GGG. To this day it boggles my mind why he did it. I've known since 2012 that Kell Brook was the best welterweight on the planet. Not Keith Thurman, not Danny Garcia, but Kell Brook. Hell, I'd take him over Canelo, but GGG was one fight that he shouldn't have taken.
The rest is history, Brook got his eye socket broken which required surgery, and history shows us that a broken eye = you will likely never be the same again. Future opponents would likely target that eye and it would likely swell/break again as soon as it is punched.
And now Brook is going to fight Spence, a young hungry lion. Funny thing is, if Brook had not gone up to 160 and got his eye broken, I would actually favor him over Spence. Brook was really that good. But now after getting a broken eye and putting on all that weight which he will have to lose, Brook will likely be knocked out by Spence when they fight.
Kell Brook man, what a waste. He had the talent to take over the Welterweight division after Mayweather retired and become the next great champion/PPV star. I'd have taken him over the reckless Thurman and the slow Garcia. But instead, he waited around, got his leg stabbed, jumped to 160 and got his eye broken, and now will get beat on by a young Spence.
What a waste of talent is all I have to say.
