"This guys calls it principle - I call it something else."

I don't know if the principle excuse is true, but men of principle are few and far between nowdays. I hope it's true, to teach this fool that NOT everybody can be bought.

Agreed, principle is actually making the weight.

I'm glad tureano's opponent walked away after tureano failed to make weight.its shows some guys still have integrity and cant be paid off.missing weight is totally unprofessional and there's no excuse for it that's literally the boxer's one and only job yet time and time again these lazy ***ers fail to make weight.they figure they can throw a couple dollars and it'll all be forgotten about nah screw that ****.

I don't think it is simple to make weight - its a knife edge that most boxers walk along. They are really trying to pack as much muscle on and yet still be able to make weight coming in at half a pound under maybe. It's a science.
I would blame Tureano's whole team instead of just him and also the matchmaker. He's been out for 15 months so it's normal to think that he might struggle to make the weight and especially if that has been his case historically. They should have made a first fight back at a catch weight. I'm not being smart after the event - this is what many fighters do when they have been out a long time.

But weights are there for a reason. Gutierrez probably was in as tough as he's ever been with Johnson. He was the underdog. He didn't need to be handicapped anymore by fighting a heavier fighter. If he had a slim chance of winning then it became slimmer after the weigh in. From a financial point of view, if he lost he would probably be back down to $10,000 paydays - so $40,000 is hardly a great compensation for that. He is still young, he can still improve. He has 2 losses on his record so a third would see him take several steps backwards seeming as how today's boxing rankings and matchmaking works. His team made th eright decision from a business point of view.

His opponent is a 22 year old kid who could possibly have a decent future in front of him, so kudos for rejecting Tureano's offer.

Tureano should have to fight Derevyanchenko if he wants to keep his IBF mando position.
