Comments Thread For: Kovalev Eager To Start Training For Andre Ward, Waiting For Deal

Sergey Kovalev (30-1, 26 KOs) is very eager to get in the ring for a rematch with Andre Ward (31-0, 15 KOs). Kovalev wants to start training again, with both eyes set on revenge. Last November at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Kovalev lost a twelve round unanimous decision to Ward. In the process Ward captured the light heavyweight titles of the World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Organization (WBO) and International Boxing Federation (IBF).

Under the terms of the contract, Ward is unable to take another fight until he fulfills his rematch obligation to Kovalev.
Same question from me... Anyone here actually saw a copy of the said rematch clause ? That smells Alternative Facts to me.. Kovalev should keep busy and fight a top 5 until things settle down, which might take a while...

it will likely be close and controversial, with the judges taking another L

pretty sure that there is definitely a rematch clause in place

I remember Ward mentioning it before the fight

nobody has denied that a rematch clause is in place

that rematch will definitely happen, no question

But I want to see the terms of the clause... I think Kovalev is unaware that Ward might not be willing to fight anyone soon... That would respect the contract and Kovalev can't do anything about it unless there's a date limit for the rematch, which I doubt...

Being Kovalev gave Ward a title shot and the closeness of the fight plus rematch clause Ward should give rematch. If no exact fee for Ward for rematch is in the contract that's what Ward is doing holding out for more than he made in first fight and a nice payday being he is now champ hopefully they agree on paydays and have rematch to clear up who is really better
