Mundine Defeats Green w/ Roy Jones Sr.'s help

    Mundine defeats Green!

    May 17, 2006

By Ray Wheatley -- World of Boxing

Former WBA super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine (26-3) defeated Danny Green (21-3) over twelve rounds at the Aussie stadium, Sydney, NSW, Australia Wednesday to become the mandatory contender to WBA 168 pound champion Mikkel Kessler.

Green started the fight in fine style outworking his opponent in round one.Referee Terry O'Connor warned both boxers that they must box within the rules after punches they were landing in illegal areas. In the following rounds it was the accurate left hand of the aboriginal that controlled the contest. Green concentrated on a body attack but it did not slow Mundine down as he peppered the former WBC interim super middleweight champion with sharp combinations to the head. Mundine was staggered in round four when Green connected with a solid right hand. Round eight had both boxers standing toe to toe exchanging bombs and in round eleven solid body shots from Green had Mundine wincing. Mundine was on his bike in round twelve jabbing Green's head on the back move.

Scores at the conclusion were Pinij Pryadasub of Thailand 118-111, Michael Lee of Korea 116-114 and Derek Milham of Australia 118-112.

Mundine said afterward, "I prepared well for this fight. Green is a great fighter - he can bounce back." When asked if he is ready to challenge WBA champ Mikkel Kessler, Mundine stated, "I showed Kessler that I can match with him when we fought last time."

Danny Green was full of praise for Mundine. "Mundine was the better fighter tonight - there are no excuses. He is very hard to tag - congratulations to him."

    Attendance was announced at 30,000.

Roy Jones Sr. has been in Mundine's camp for this fight. Mundine has a style of an RJJ, although not quite as skilled as RJJ was in his prime obviously. Mundine supposedly displayed some great footwork and handspeed in this fight. Anyone want to DL it for uploading?
