Comments Thread For: Schaefer: Mikey Garcia Can Become The Next Pay-Per-View Star

MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Ringstar Sports CEO Richard Schaefer is expecting a very big future for WBC lightweight champion Mikey Garcia (36-0, 30 KOs). On Saturday night, Garcia pulled off a major statement with a crushing three round knockout of previously undefeated of Dejan Zlaticanin to capture the WBC crown. A two-punch combination sent Zlaticanin down and completely out. Zlaticanin was unconscious for at least a minute before the ringside physicians were able to partially get him up and sit him down on a stool.

I will respectfully disagree. Mikey is absolutely great. His skills are unquestionable. Good excitement. However, he seems to be a complete class act, which doesn't generate the gross PPV dollars anymore. People love controversy. He will definitely make plenty of money, but unless he becomes a dominant force with minimal tune-ups and continuous top-level wins, he won't become PPV king... Just my thoughts. I don't really care, but Mikey seems like the kind of guy that you want the best for...

He was DAMN good for being off 2 1/2 years. The way he moves his hypes and changes angles is a think of BEAUTY!!!! He also hits hard as hell. AND he's keeps that distance PERFECT!!!! Every punch his opponent threw was like within inches.. He has talent most boxers can only dream about. When he fights he's like 2-3 steps ahead of everyone else and it looks like he sees it in slow motion???

I'm ready to see Garcia vs. Loma @ 135, Garcia vs. Salido @ 135, Garcia vs. Broner @ 140, or Garcia vs. Crawford @ 140, and i'm ready to pay to see either of them! Oddly, the one that would not be a PPV, Garcia vs. Easter, may be the toughest opponent! Easter is 5'11", and can box! Should be a great year for Mikey Garcia!

He would need 3-4 more big wins to become a real PPV player. Linares, Verdejo then Broner at 140.

I think Mikey is 2 fights from trying to do a pay per view event.

He's been off 2 and a half years, has been in two co-main events since his return.

Have Mikey fight in a couple of main events, and see what kind of ratings he does and how much he sells tickets and merchandise wise.

Unification fight next, plus another 135 pound fight before pay per view becomes realistic.

Mikey is a great boxer... but to be a PPV star at a weight class below 147... you need to have some compelling rivalries, or threats in the division..

There are prospects in 135 and 140.. but not much... Casuals need to be fed storylines. Or you need to have another great Mexican boxer, or a PR guy like Verdejo step up his game big time.
