Comments Thread For: Top Rank President Lays Out Michael Conlan's Plan To Stardom

New York - It's not typical that an Olympian making his pro debut would get his own press conference in New York City. But 2016 Irish Olympian Michael Conlan is not the typical Olympian. Conlan will make his debut - in the main event - on St Patrick's Day, March 17, at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden. The plan is to fight him often between the United States and Ireland, according to Top Rank President Todd Duboef, who signed Conlan out of the Olympics.

I am looking forward to seeing this guy. Top Rank is very good at building prospects. I am not looking forward to all the NSB garbage.

If both guys do as expected, how great would a Stevenson/Conley fight at MSG or Prudential be in about 5 yers?

Is there anything special about this guy cause the only notable thing I see is him flipping off the judges

I feel like Arum has been hearing about this crazy Conor guy who's got an army of Irish fans flying to the US to watch his fights and think he can capitalize off of this Irish kid who flipped off the Olympic judges.

I don't think it's gonna work unless they brought up Conlan exclusively in Ireland like how Conor was brought up and he can be an exciting, fun fighter to watch which I'll guess we'll figure out, but I'm guessing he isn't in possession of some Tyson or Pacquiao magic in that way to capture fans imagination.

Who knows, it depends on how they look as a pro's.
One thing is sure, that fight should have happened in Rio, Conlan beat the hell out of Nikitin and still got robbed so Nikitin was put on the semis against Shakur, but Conlan beat him so bad that couldn't even fight Shakur and he got directly in the final against Robeisy.

It's good to see that Conlan is well promoted, my biggest hopes for the pro game are mostly olympians.
              Conlan is quite a talent.

He's the best (male) amateur that Ireland has had in a long time, maybe ever, and has a brash but likeable personality, but he's probably too small to be a crossover star in America, and his weight range is stacked so becoming #1 is a big ask

Yea weight will be an issue in the US.

They should for sure try to throw him on TR cards in cities or regions where McGregor is fighting the day after when possible to try to get some of Conor's fans to be enticed to come watch him too. Kinda a piggybacking approach.
