The difference between the non-blacks I know that use the word and what Angel did is that they use the word among people that they know aren't offended by it. Growing up around blacks doesn't make you black. It also doesn't give you universal "black privilege." Angel wasn't in a private setting among peers. He was at a press conference that was gonna be accessible to every person on this planet with a TV and/or internet access. That's a lot of different people from a lot of different backgrounds. Several of whom simply see a non-black spewing the N-word in a confrontational manner.
*** you and the south you hoe ass nigg@.

I like it and hate it at teh same time. I think angel went too far and cross the line in his last rant and he has been tip toe;'ing that fine line for a long time now.

I like that he got punished cause its was uncalled for. but at the same time I dont want boxing to become PC like NBA and **** where they have to wear suits etc etc, boxing is the law raw sport alive.

Exactly. Angel reminds me of my ex-wife. She would raise all kinda hell with men. Would say disrespectful ****. Would hit, spit, etc. But when a woman got in her ass, she didn't have **** to say. Angel is the same. He'll run his d1ck lick, disrespect fighters, and play that tough **** with fighters. But when confronted by someone that can physically get in his ass and nothing will be said, he starts making excuses about being 50 with bad knees. Dude is a straight up coward.

The article brings up some very interesting points about the corporate and community indifference to character flaws that exist within boxing. Men about to report to prison, with active warrants, noted verbal offenders...we not only allow them to headline events, but in many instances, their popularity grows as something of a "bad boy" reputation of them abounds. If any of you ever saw the 2014 documentary "Champs" - it highlights a very noteworthy element of boxing's history - it's stars almost always come from extreme poverty and difficult up bringing. So much so, you could almost track the progression of certain ethnic culture's progress within a country based on the ethnicity of the stars it produces. So we have a long an twisting history of ethnic identity and rough around the edges fighters being showcased for promoters to exploit to make money from. And promoters AND fans look the other way when a fighter behaves boorishly because they fighter is entertaining, and they make money...

But that's not what's at play here. This isn't a fighter acting in a manner deemed unfit for television and decent company, this is a fighter's father. No one is tuning in to CBS (assuming they still carry the event) to watch Angel Garcia shout words of encouragement or give in between round advice. They want to see Danny and Thurman. So why not take this opportunity to, as Dan Rafael suggests, "throw the book" at Angel. It's not going to effect the ratings negatively, the promoter still has their headline and money secure. I don't mean to suggest we use Angle Garcia as a scapegoat to cast all the sins of boxing onto, but just this once, wouldn't it be nice to see even within the boxing community there are lines that are not to be crossed. In the legal system, there is an idea of "punitive damages" where in the defended is required to pay more than originally required, and it is done as a deterrent for others - kind of like punishing them excessively to prevent others from even considering doing the same in the future. No one can stop Danny from being trained by Angel, but the athletic commissions and sanctioning bodies have an opportunity to hand down a ban (for this event, or in the future as well) that might serve as a warning, and set a precedent, for at least getting boxing to the level of being broadcast on mainstream television once again.
