Its a unique scenario so the rules are a bit vague. If Spence just went ahead and signed for another fight, Brook could claim that Spence was "unavailable", and Spence would lose his spot. But spence could probably have asked the IBF to allow him an optional "stay busy" fight while the Brook thing plays out, but even if the IBF allowed it and Spence would not lose his spot, it might still open a window for Brook to take another fight in the meantime and then Spence has to wait even longer.

Sitting for a few months sucks, but its the right play in order to force Brooks hand.....
