I get that but why not just fight immediately and say titles don't matter in that case? If it was an easy mando I'd understand it, but they could market this easy as Brit v. Brit rivalry without a title. But if Brook loses two in a row and has no title, then it seems like a much smaller fight.

Hearn says Brook's value is bigger because he's the champion. Well if that's the case fight your mandatory in Spence or just vacate the title. Hearn knows without that title Khan has more leverage. the belt isn't worth crap as far as the split in my opinion. Not in this case anyway. He got the belt by beating Porter over 2 years ago and has done nothing sense. He hasn't unified or even fought anyone to make me give a damn. I strongly dislike Khan, but there is no denying who the big dawg is in negotiations.

Dropping the IBF belt isn't a big deal if he gets the Khan fight. Fighting Spence in hopes of getting the Khan fight afterwards is nothing but trouble for Brook. Not only could he lose to Spence, but he still might not get the fight even if he wins. He should simply move up to 154 and try to establish himself without depending on Khan. He has been chasing this fight for 5 years and has been holding his career back because of it. Move up. You will get criticized for ducking, but I think most people understand that it would be a reasonable duck. You can make 147, but you lose too in the weight drain to fight Spence. That's all good. You're not the only one who isn't jumping at the opportunity to fight Spence..
