Could Mike Tyson actually 'outbox' Lennox Lewis?



Don't get me wrong... I think Mike was great boxer and KO artist...

But I doubt his ability to 'outbox' healthy Prime Lennox Lewis.
Tyson struggled against Holyfield and lost 2 times.
While Lewis confidently beat Holyfield 2 times. He was clearly robbed in 1'st fight for draw.

Also don't forget Mike is 5 ft 10, Lewis is 6 ft 5

At best, Tyson would outbox Lennox for a few rounds in the first half of the fight. Not nearly enough to actually win on points.

No. I'd favour prime Lewis over prime Tyson, but don't act like prime Tyson didn't have the ability to get inside and stop Lewis early.

that's not how tyson fought. patterson was much more of a boxer out of that style / tradition. tyson worked very hard to move his head and get at [his] arm's length and off to the side so he could land his bombs.

"boxing" at HW requires much more of a measured pace and movement designed to diffuse and extend a fight. that's just playing to lewis' strengths.


tyson probably could beat lewis in his prime, but it would be via knockout, and probably less likely than a loss. lewis' style is all wrong for tyson. he had a great jab, he knew how to clinch, and he'd make tyson pay when he came inside. if you remember quick tillis taking tyson 10 rounds early in his career you'd probably have a decent idea of how lewis would fight. tillis was more of a slickster and a cutie than lewis, who was a giant man with legitmately scary power. still, both guys kept tyson at bay with a jab and movement, and more importantly they knew how to clinch and last.

Mike's defence was built on superb upper body and head movement, which in turn was built on insane conditioning. He just wouldn't have the energy reserves to sustain that for a 10-12 round distance against someone like Lewis, even at his terrifying peak.
