Weight-Draining Gone Wild.. Canelo vs Chavez Jr = Ward vs Dawson? No Weigh José?

Chavez Jr hasn't fought below the 168 limit for 4 years, since 2012 when he lost to Sergio Martinez at the 160 limit. Ever since then, he's had 2 fights weighing in as a super middleweight at the 168 limit, and 3 fights weighing in as a light heavyweight at the limit of 175. Although, in his very last fight he weighed 168.

But just like Dawson vs Ward, Chavez Jr will have to go down to a weight he hasn't made for a long time. Will he be badly weight-drained and will it effect the way the fight plays out or do you think he simply had poor training discipline for the past 4 years and that making the 164.5 lb catchweight won't really have any adverse physical effect on him under his new strength and conditioning coach?

    Weight-draining gone wild? Or where there's a will there's a weigh?
Weigh in with your thoughts, weigh to go.

Jr will be 10-15 heavier than Canelo.

It's a catchweight. Both fighters have disadvantages.

SMH why people is so dumb. He will be 5 pounds heavier. Canelo will be 175 at least and there's no way chavez will be more than 185.

Canelo will be 172-173 and Jr 184 or more, there is a lot of difference.

That's only if getting down to 164.5 doesn't inhibit his ability to rehydrate properly. Dawson had a problem rehydrating when he went back down to 168 for Ward. And most famously, Oscar De La Hoya had a major problem rehydrating when he fought Pacquiao, to the point that they had to put him on an IV drip the day of the fight to try to get fluids back into him. Because Chavez Jr hasn't been that low in weight for years, he might have a big problem rehydrating and end up being weight-drained like De La Hoya and Dawson were.

While I do think that Jr will be very weight drained and wont be able to move, I don't see a lot of similarities to Dawson-Ward. That was 100% Dawson's fault. His nutrition plan wasn't good, AND he didn't stick to it. Iceman did an interview where he said that Dawson weight was (quoting from memory) 184 lbs 2 months away from the fight. After a month of training and working out, they weighed him and he weighed 2 pounds MORE.

Dawson did all of that to himself. We'll see how Jr will be.

Canelo rehydrated to 174 vs. Angulo 3 years ago and 172 vs. Trout 4 years ago. Last time he rehydrated to 172 he was a 22 year old kid fighting at 154.

You have to be obnoxiously ****** to think he'll rehydrate to 172-173 in May 2017 fighting at 164 lbs.
