Callum Smith is rank #1 @ 168lbs by the WBC. This is Canelo chance to become a 3 division Champion, if he's able to beat Smith for the belt it would set up a unification fight with Zurdo Ramirez, so yes Canelo would fight Smith for a chance to set up another megafight with Zurdo

The 'earned his shot' comment was BS. He's a world titlist. Not a contender anymore.

He holds a belt and is a world titlist. Beating Quillen cemented his right to have a title. Canelo is the champ too even though we don't think he's the best. It is what it is, but he's a champ, not a contender. It's that simple.

He got older and bigger..is that something new?

He's a champ when he holds a world title. He's no longer just a contender who 'earns a shot'.

                End of discussion.

Canelo won't fight GGG this year. Zurdo vs Canelo September.
