It happens man, fighters old and young, veterans and rookies do it. It's hard to see someone try to discredit your win by making up excuses. Davis went through a tough training camp, had to make weight too, and had to fight as the underdog. So it's tough to see an opponent you just beat the breaks off of, who was supposed to beat you, trying to dampen the loss with excuses like weight. The immature boxers to me are those who can't admit defeat. Pedraza is the one who should be a man and own up. He shouldn't come with the hindsight bias now "I knew I shoulda done this and that" after he sounded so confident before the fight.

I think that if Pedraza has the right to defend his loss, Davis has the right to defend his win.

Excuses have been around since the dawn of boxing or any conflict.

I can respect that. I don't think Davis made a huge mistake or anything so I don't want to overstate those sentiments. But, I would ideally like to see him show a bit of healthy arrogance, and not even acknowledge Pedrazas excuses. I otherwise like what I'm hearing from the kid. Seems earthy, no shtick.

Pedraza did the classic move that always makes me cringe, "I'm not trying to make excuses but..." (proceeds to make excuses)
That's OK when you're doing a blog interview for the fans, fans need reassurance, but I don't like to see it in the ring.

Honestly I think Davis got under Pedraza's skin and thats why Jose completely threw the game plan of boxing at distance out the window and tried to pressure Gervonta. It played right into Davis' hands. Pedraza wanted to stop the kid but got countered to death. He dug a big hole for himself losing all the early rounds by going inside instead of boxing from the outside like he had said he was going to do before the fight. It was a sensational win for Davis. He ko'd a more experienced champion while simultaneously stepping up big time in class. He made Pedraza look like a scrub!
