Comments Thread For: James DeGale-Badou Jack: Pre-Fight Report Card

One was a fighter predicted for stardom almost from the start of his career, a Gold Medalist with personality. The other is an understated professional, the sort of fighter who learns his craft with less fanfare at the start and matures into his big chance.

If DeGale raises his game up he should win a comfortable decision. But he is always so up and down in fights, doesn't seem to be able to put it all together for every single round.

Jack has a real chance to win just because he is always plugging away from start to finish.

Underachiever and overachiever is the best description of this fight.

Jack has improved vastly from Edwards loss and 2 subsequent fights to the Groves fight. He actually reminds me a bit of Froch in that he is limited but game and persistent. Having said that he is more athletic than Frock if not [yet] with the same resume.

DeGale's worst performance {Groves] is better than Jack's worst performance [Edwards]. DeGale's best perfomance (A.Dirrell) is better than Jack's best win (Groves). I rate Andre Dirrell as a much better fighter than George even though I like Grove's attitude.

This fight will see DeGale look flashy in the early rounds and I'm seeing him being a few rounds up by the midway point. He has to keep his foot on the gas pedal in the mid rounds. If Jack needs a KO to catch up then that is when he may become vulnerable to a knock down or tko in the championship rounds.

Jack is typically slow to start (apart from against Groves] and will go for the body. DeGale will be too slick and will go upstairs forcing Jack to respond in kind. Jack game plan will be to wear down DeGale but may come unstuck if DeGale's conditioning is as good as he says. DeGale by UD or dodgy SD or by late rounds tko.

Head says Jack by decision, heart says Degale by KO as unlikely as that is.
