Lomachenko vs Corrales, Gvozdyk vs. Gonzalez in discussions for 04/15/17

    http://boxingnews.com.ua/en/news/184...nko-i-gvoz***a

Top Rank chief Bob Arum said HBO has given him April 15 for a card to be headlined by junior lightweight world titleholder Vasyl Lomachenko, of Ukraine, with up-and-coming Ukrainian light heavyweight Oleksandr Gvozdyk ticketed for the co-feature, ESPN reports.

Arum said the opponents are not set, but Lomachenko could face Panama’s Jezreel Corrales in a title unification fight. On New Year’s Eve, Corrales scored his second win in a row against Takashi Uchiyama, from whom he took the title last April in a major upset.

“Obviously, Corrales is the preferred opponent because it’s a unification fight and [Lomachenko] is obsessed with getting the other titles,” Arum said. “But there are other options.”

Gvozdyk may fight Cuban defector Yunieski Gonzalez, who many felt was robbed of a decision on HBO against former world champion Jean Pascal in 2015.

Arum said the card could take place at the new MGM National Harbor Resort & Casino, which sits on the banks of the Potomac River in Oxon Hill, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C.

I hope they can get it done for March.

HBO (Non-PPV) may not even have fights for February or March. Something is definitely going on.

Loma has said he wants to fight more regularly.

Two fights a year are not enough.

If he fights in March, maybe he'll be able to fight three times in 2017. If it's delayed until April 15, it's more likely he'll again end the year with only 2 fights.

And Gvozdyk too should not fight fewer than three times in 2017.

I have no idea why Lomachenko doesn't fight once a year in Europe off HBO. It makes sense in several ways: more activity, increases his profile internationally, improves how his record looks, etc.

Frank Warren is interested in bringing Loma to the UK for a fight. He wants to build up a fight with Flanagan.
If HBO doesn't have any more dates (after this March/April fight; hopefully in March) then why not take those opportunities?
If they can somehow work something out they can have Usyk and Loma in Ukraine or somewhere in Europe whenever they need fights.
They can into a lot of problems and I don't know how it would work financially. They need to start finding other ways to stay active though. I'm just throwing ideas.
I don't think HBO will have a lot of dates this year. Something is definitely going on with HBO. Not just HBO but boxing in general. People don't want to admit it but something is definitely going on with boxing.

                Flanagan-Lomachenko would be interesting.
