NEW YORK The Danny Garcia-Keith Thurman fight finally will be announced Wednesday during a press conference in New York. What hasn't been determined is whether their March 4 welterweight title fight at Barclays Center in Brooklyn will air on CBS or Showtime, which is owned by CBS. Stephen Espinoza, executive vice president and general manager for Showtime Sports, told BoxingScene.com on Thursday that a decision regarding airing Garcia-Thurman on free TV or premium cable is imminent.

"it would be a shame not to share it with the biggest audience possible. Which, of course, would be on CBS.”

Exactly. The point of PBC was to bring boxing back to basic cable. Don't ruin that with it biggest fight thus far.

I think it will be on CBS. If it was gonna be on Showtime it would have been announced as an Showtime with the other Showtime cards.

This is a ppv fight so even if its on showtime it will still be a bargain for boxing fans.....

It's not up to PBC. Showtime is putting the money up for this fight so it's really their decision. If Al wanted to front the $5M and put it on NBC or FOX, he would have.

Espinoza is right about one thing, all they have scheduled is the first quarter of the year. Why would one quarter of the year be hard to follow up or match? You have three quarters of the year left, so it shouldn't be a problem. Boxing is never going to thrive again unless there are multiple fights like that every month, just like other sports have top matchups every other night not to mention week or month. After Thurman-Danny, you can do Thurman/Danny-Spence, Thurman/Danny-Brook, etc, it's not difficult. After Frampton-Santa Cruz, you have other featherweights they can fight next too.

And those are just among those guys. At 175, Stevenson vs. Beterbiev is an obvious fight to make. And there are so many more fights they can make. At 154 there are a ton. At 135-147 you can put Mikey in with the best guys and actually challenge him for once in his career. And so on and so forth.

So, it's a bad sign if Espinoza is already making excuses about the rest of their schedule this year. You have three good fights scheduled. A year has 52 weeks. So you have literally 5.7% of your saturday's next year filled with good fights. 5.7%. That's it. Espinoza said that's the first quarter of the year, and that the rest of the year would be hard to match it. Well, even if you did match it the next three quarters of the year, that would still only be 23% of your weekends filled with good fights. Considering the large stable they have, that's still ****. That's one good fight per month. So Showtime shouldn't just be looking to match their first quarter, they should be looking to double. Once you got a top fight every two weeks, then you leave the other weeks to HBO, etc. But one good fight per month or much less the way Espinoza talks about the next three quarters of the year is still not very much. Even UFC does it way more often than that AND they have stacked undercards. If they just did one good matchup per card they could do a top matchup every week if not every few days.
