No it's not. If you get KTFO by a bigger guy who is a unified champ of his division after giving a good account of yourself, then nobody holds it against you, hell, they might even praise you despite getting KTFO.
However, perform exactly the same against a prospect in your own division, well....that could be the end of your career as we know it.
So yes, it's not an absurd statement for fans to make, at least not for the reason's yawl are giving.
The only thing that can make it sound absurd is the fact that Brook called out Golovkin BEFORE Spence became his mandatory, if I recall, he called Golovkin out right after it was announced that Khan has signed to fight Canelita.Comment

A win over Khan means nothing. The guy hasn't had a significant win himself since Maidana in 2010. Apart from an endless stream of talk he has nothing to show for his last six years.
You're right, Spence is young. But he looks like the goods and even if he loses to Brook he'll probably back up the hype down the road. Either way, everyone would pick him over Khan right now.Comment

Well how would they have made that fight for May anyway? Khan wouldn't have fought for 1 year. He just had hand surgery a few months ago and stated around then he wants a tune-up bout to see how his hand holds up. He also fasts end of May (Ramadhan) so he would have to fight in Feb/March and then in May. Khan isn't at the stage of his career where he's going to be fighting that regularly. He hasn't been been doing that since 2010 i'd say. If Khan wins his tuneup bout in March or whenever it is and Brook beats Spence. That's a huge fight that can happen BUT it would have to be indoor likely due to the weather in the UK after August. This is a stadium fight, likely at Old Trafford up in Manchester, complete sense for it to happen there it's just a timing problem.Comment
