Comments Thread For: DeGale: After Jack, Some Massive Fights Like Smith, Groves Await

JAMES DEGALE says he has had a harder route to the top than Anthony Joshua. Super-middleweight DeGale reckons it was tougher for him to get a world title unification fight than heavyweight Joshua. The Londoner faces US-based Swede Badou Jack in New York on Saturday while Joshua will earn at least 10million from his IBF-WBA showdown with former champion Wladimir Klitschko in front of 90,000 at Wembley Stadium on April 29.

Thought he wanted to face GGG? Didnt he just give an interview that he wants to move down in weight and face GGG? Was that all talk?? What changed his mind?

DeGale vs Smith at the moment is not a 'big' fight, Smith has a few spectacular knockouts but he hasn't fought anyone. If Groves wins the WBA Super, a rematch between him and DeGale to unify IBF, WBC and WBA Super belts would be a massive fight, Wembley Stadium and PPV undoubtedly. Groves wins that in my eyes.

As for the comments on Joshua, I don't know what DeGale is thinking. Yes AJ was fortunate with the timing of a home Olympics, but he's also a far more likeable character than DeGale. That has played a big part in AJ getting to where he is now, plus the fact that he has stuck with Hearn. Hate to admit it but Hearn and Sky Sports is definitely the place to be for British fighters. AJ's style crosses over to the public better than DeGale's as well, football fans want to see explosive knockouts rather than classical boxing.

A career super middleweight with the pedigree of Degale knows better..Why doesn't GGG move up? Its easier to go up than to go down. Plenty of sharks waiting for Golovtits at 168, but thats too big of a pond for him.

I saw in the interview with Donald McRae that DeGale thinks he can make £10m this year.

            .
No chance DeGale v Groves is a stadium fight. o2 Arena probably.

DeGale isn't a big fighter in the UK because he's been out of the spotlight and fighting in USA/Canada and again, this upcoming fight isn't getting much exposure and it's on during the night so it will just pass most people by.

People need to stop thinking any good fight can be made at Wembley. It can't. It's far too big for DeGale v Groves. It's not easy to get 80,000 to put their hands in their pockets when neither guy has much stardom. Groves v Froch only worked because Froch was a big fighter and Groves give him a hell of a fight with a controversial ending, there was a story to sell and it was fresh in the memory. Groves and DeGale have a history but it's not of interest to most people and a long time ago.

If Groves doesn't bring a title to the table, then DeGale's going to force a 70/30% split & the fight won't happen. Therefore GG VS Zeuge or Sturm needs to happen soon!
