Man does anyone remember me debating a Hatton support about this a few weeks back? I was debating the point that the longer Hatton waits for his "tune-up" fights the worse for him.

My arguement was that due to his between fight lifestyle and fighting style that he has a shorter window of being "prime". Marciano had the style and was out of boxing by 30yrs old, Frazier was shot by around that same age as well. The same can be said of Tyson.

I was of the opinion that since PBF stays in relative good shape and is fanatical about health that he would probably have a longer shelf life. That and the fact that his style allows him to get hit less often than most fighters.

The Hatton supporter was of the opinion that Hatton's regiment was healthier due to Hattons body getting rest and that the constant stress PBF put his body through all year round would add wear and tear quicker than Hattons system of letting go between fights. As proof he stated that Hatton had the best engine in boxing and attributed that to his training only for fights and otherwise resting his body.

By the logic of that Hatton fan, we should all spend our lives sitting on the couch drinking beer. Wouldn't we all live to 100.

I see the hatton fans point, but it simply isn't a fact. your body is healthier under physical stress than without it, it keeps everything moving. Why do you think there are so many 90 year old army vets, cause they stay in shape as a lifestyle. Hopkins lifestyle was boxing. I'm slowly making my lifestyle boxing and hopefully it will pay off, but back to the point, putting on that much weight does do one thing for him though, it gives hiom a strength advantage. From personal expereince, if you way 140 and jump to 170, then go back down to 140, you grew muscle that the natural 140 fighter never had, and you WILL be stronger, but it seemed to cost him what made him so devistating, his relentlessness, which I didn't see much against collazo

part of being a professional athlete is staying in shape.

Why do u think theres an offseason for baseball, or a training camp for football. IF u dont stay is shape year round, ur only allowing urself to get so fit in a certain amount of time. Hatton not only leaves himself to little time to get in shape, but he does to much.

For hatton, to much pays off in stamina. Hes got some of the best in the game. But it hurts him in fatigue. In the cases of professional athletes, to much training can lead to permanant injuries and permanant side affects. This is why athletes in other sports only train 5-6 days a week.

Hatton knows what hes doing when he works out, but he has to do one thing or the other:
            A) get in shape earlier or stay in shape year round
            OR
            B) Lessen the amount of days he works out. Fatigue is worse then gaining muscle

I never understood how fighters blow up between fights.

I understand maybe putting on 10lb but some of them put on a lot of weight...

I just wonder how they do it. I know good metabolizm runs in my family but damn.......Hatton 170 between fights???

This whole situation doesnt make sense to me and here is why. Your body has a weight for which it is settled in on, and you will hover around that weight unless you force your body either way. Now if Hatton is consistently blowing up to neat 170(!) between fights then something is up. His supporters say he is fighting at 147 with a 140lb body, yet he is forced to obviously crash diet and train in order to get his NATURAL weight back to 140 for fights. This info is telling me Hatton had a 150+ lb natural weight, and the artificial weight is his 140lb body...
