  • Oscar De La Hoya vs Ike Quartey (Round 6 and 12)

    Two classic rounds.

How did you score this fight? Oscar did finish strong in the 12th round but I thought Quartey did enough to win the fight.

    Incredible 12th round.

    Oscar won....

Great fight. Bazooka's jab was awesome! I had Oscar winning the fight because of the BIG 12th round he had. He closed the show and had Quartey hurt bad, on the ropes at the end. He went out and TOOK that fight. Props to Oscar for having the better chin and better endurance.

That's probably my favorite 12th round.

Great fight that I thought Quartey edged, but one of them fights that it could of went either way. Quartey was/is a very underated fighter. Hate Quartey's career was spotty at best after his draw with Jose Luis Lopez, which was another spectacular fight imo.

Oscar won. alltime great fight. gave Oscar the early rounds, quartey won middle rounds, Oscar rallied and won the late rounds including a defining 12th were he dropped Quartey the second time and had him out on his feet with the ropes holding him up from being knocked out. The 12th put him over the top for the win. Quartey ran out of gas and in a close fight can't afford to do that and definitely can't get dropped like he did in the 12. This is one of the most underated fights in Oscar's career, he was in so many big fights that this one falls through the cracks and isn't talked about as much. People forget how good and dangerous Quartey was and all the welterweights who were ducking him at the time, including Trinidad and Whitaker who wanted no parts of him.

Quartey is so underrated and it's because he walked away from the sport. But yeah he faded in the Lopez fight, faded in the Oscar fight and faded in the Vargas fight. Could of won all 3 decisively if not for running out of gas/getting dropped late. Too bad after the Oscar loss he took too much time off then moved up in weight to fight Vargas lost another close fight and then retired for 5 years. Came back a shell of himself for a few fights but was never the same. But in his prime he was a undefeated champ up there with Oscar, Tito, Whitaker in the mid to late 90's. But he just disappeared at his prime so he won't be remembered like them.
