  • Comments Thread For: Khurtsidze: Billy Joe Saunders is a Knockout Waiting to Happen

If Avtandil Khurtsidze gets his shot at Billy Joe Saunders, the WBO's No. 1 middleweight contender doesn't expect to have much trouble with the unbeaten champion. "He's a knockout waiting to happen," Khurtsidze told BoxingScene.com through a translator. "I don't put him in high regard or low regard. He just hovers somewhere in the middle to me."

I missed BJS last fight but didn't believe he could have been as bad as everyone said so I looked it up. It was far worse than I could have imagined. Unbelievable that this was the same guy who beat Lee and went to war with Eubank. I think Saunders was a talented fighter at one point but everyone is going to be gunning for his belt now. I don't even know if he can get back what he once had. He looked that damn bad.

That would explain a lot. It really would.
As far as why some drink, I know that beer helps get rid of soreness (or mask it) when you've been training hard. Some just don't have the discipline to stay away.

From what i've heard, he entered camp about 40lbs+ over the limit after being out for a year with injuries/cancellations and probably eating and partying from what i've heard. Split with his trainer too mid camp which never helped. It seems he spent his camp actually just losing weight and apparently did no sparring.

From his interviews since, it seems that he has had a scare with that performance and it's woken him up. But that's easier said than done and time will tell. I think he's very talented on his day, whether they're gone or not we will see.

I hope the best for him. I thought he was on his way after he beat Chris and Andy. Always bothers me to see a talented guy fall off like that.

Hopefully Alvarez/Chavez gets made this week so that Saunders/Khurtsidze gets made for March. I'm picking Bill to redeem himself.

Indeed. Although i'm not going to excuse him much for his last performance because a lot of it was his own doing but putting all those factors together, it's no wonder he looked absolutely awful.

I just hope he gets back to his best anyway. Not my favourite fighter or anything but he's a good addition to the MW division when he's focused.
