Comments Thread For: Farhood Explains Why Canelo, Golovkin Need Each Other in 2017

Showtime analyst and 2017 Hall of Fame entrant Steve Farhood is optimistic that a mega-fight takes place in the fall between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) and Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs).

They certainly do need to fight. No fight bigger for either man. Canelo and GB need to grow a pair and GGG needs to stop thinking he is more than he is worth for this fight. He and his camp say this is easy work than take the money offered and KO Canelo then you can call your shots.

I was just thinking the same think on how Loeffler and GGG are INSANE for not taking $15,000,000 to fight Canelo??? There pricing themselves way out of the fight. For $15 million I'm sure AL Haymon would probably give up 3-4 of his guys...let alone just one.

Idk Mr. Farhood. I was actually thinking its very plausible they don't fight in 2017 with what could easily transpire.

GGG is already booked for March vs Jacobs. I could see him fight a whoever opponent in July to fulfill a mandatory or something. Then maybe he fights the Charlo moving up later in the year or BJS. Canelo seems like he's going to be fighting Chavez Junior in May & he could easily fight whoever he wants between the Charlo moving up, Lemiuex or BJS in September. Or hell Eubank could end up being in the mix if he goes back down to 160 for either guy in 2017.

So idk about a lack of choices, but obviously this fight should happen if boxing made any f#cking sense...the problem is boxing makes no f#cking sense wayyyyyy too often.

Let's get this straight. Canelo doesn't NEED Golovkin.

He can make very nice money fighting the likes of Chavez Jr and Cotto and even Pacquiao (who is interested according to Freddie Roach.)

It's Golovkin who needs Canelo because otherwise he doesn't have an attractive PPV partner anywhere on the horizon.

If he wants to be remebered as a true star, yes, he does. he must face bigger guys, not smaller.

"True stardom" doesn't put food on the table.

Besides, Golovkin gets away with not fighting bigger guys and just faced a welterweight. So Canelo can get away with it too, especially since he would be making way more money for doing it.

That's just the reality of the situation.

GGG is from Kazakhstan, he does not pretend to be a big boxing star. Canelo does. If he wants to legitimate his ex middleweight status, than, yes, he needs GGG fight. because GGG is a top dog in 160 division.

As long as Canelo is making big money he is not going to care one iota about legitimizing his ex-middleweight status.

                  Trust me.

True. But, you are right, if Canelo fights Chavez jr., who is much bigger and stronger, and beats him, I give him a credit for that.
