    when the WBC almost died

in june of 2004, it appeared the WBC was about to close its doors for good. sulaiman was ready to create the UBC to take its place.

bernard hopkins, erik morales, jose luis castillo, jorge arce, antonio tarver and vitali klitschko had all agreed to vacate their WBC titles and accept the new UBC titles instead.

at the last minute, the WBC increased their offer to rocchigiani from $3.5 million to $4.2 million ($1.2 million up front plus 300k per year for ten years) and the WBC was saved.

but what if the WBC had died? do you think the UBC would have been instantly accepted?

we never did find out who was trying to gain control of the WBC. was it a rival organization? a promoter with a vendetta? any guesses?

Death of a sanctioning body is one step closer to 1 belt per weight class

how will that be any good?? How can one champ take on all comers?? it's not possible, there will be no unifaction bouts, I'm fine if they got rid of the ******ed WBO but the WBC, WBA, and IBF are good, unifaction fights are the best

If there exist only one title. People have to earn their shot at the title. They have to fight legit eliminators and cant just beat up on bums until they get the call.

Scenarios like ottke and calzaghe co existing many years without facing each other shouldnt exist.
One weightclass, one champion. It works for the ufc. The biggest problem talking with a casual is to explain why there are 4 champs and why you cant definitely say who is the #1, because the top guys dont face each other.

There could be a possibility that the 4 sanctioning bodies are used as a tournament vehicle in order to crown the mandatory.

How can one sanctioning body be favored over another? Ridiculous. Agenda written all over it.
As long as we truly get to see the best fight the best, that's what matters.

"One weightclass, one champion. It works for the ufc."

the only way that could happen in boxing is if PBC takes over . . .

They could leave the other belts that aren't world belts, make it like the wwe with the intercontinental and USA belts, but one undisputed world champ .

nobody forced the fans to recognize the WBOgus belt. nobody forced the fans to recognize the USBA-IBF belt. nobody forced the fans to recognize THREE WBA champions in every division.

want one belt? ignore every belt other than the WBC. now you've got one belt.
