    my thoughts exactly

I'll never understand how some of the people here have ******s with the likes of Harry Greb, when they have never seen them fight, not even once

I'd rather be a fan of Jackie Chan, Batman, Spiderman or Kimbo Slice

at least with them you got something to watch and root for.

with these dinosaur mofos you got nothing

aside from a record in a book and your own delirious imagination

We can use our imagination about the legends we hear and read about, lol. This has been going on since the beginning of mankind, relying on word of mouth and written account to tell the story. Sure it gets sensationalized along the way. No, i'm not going to "adjust" for that like a margin of error.

Don't act like this is some new phenomenon.

We aren't just going to flat out ignore history that happened before the ability to record film just because we can't youtube a fight, lol.

It's not about ignoring history, it's about being a fan of prizefighters you've never actually seen fighting

It's different than being a fan of, Napoleon for example. You can admire the things he achieved, how he rose from poverty to power, how he influenced the society of his time, his military genius, his Napoleonic Code, the battle tactics he invented etc

an historical character like him has a huge legacy and plenty of things to admire him or loath him for...but the old boxers that are often mentioned here, they achieved nothing outside of boxing; fighting is the only reason they are famous, but we have never seen them fight. Yeah they deserve their credit, but ¨being a fan¨ of them is a little extreme. Being a fan implies that you really admire or love something about them, if you basically don't know anything about them aside from a record on a book, how can you become a fan?
Unless you have watched them fight at least once or there are interesting novels written about them, I dont see how

Yea, I agree with that, you have to know a bit something about them obiously.

I think it's fun to read up on old warriors and it's hard not to get enamoured with their legends.

I know many of the names batted around here, but I don't know enough about the subject to offer an opinion. I do have something to offer, though. If you're interested in this topic, you might want to check out "The Manly Art: Bare-Knuckle Prize Fighting in America" by Elliot J. Gorn. I got about half way through the book years ago. Just never got around to picking it up again. As I recall, it was pretty interesting.

Bare knuckle fighting is for flat footed white bois If only lil G was around those times but even then he'd probably still duck Pete Jackson because he doesn't want no business with a slick fighter smfh.

Yea but like, once the dude started punching you would think he would react? I guess not . That was brutal af though. Did his head hit the concrete on the side when he got kicked? Looked like it to me.
