Comments Thread For: Jacobs: Honestly, I Didn't Know If Golovkin Fight Would Get Made

NEW YORK There were times, Daniel Jacobs admits, that even he wasn't sure if the biggest fight of his boxing career would get made. There were certain things he sought before agreeing to challenge Gennady Golovkin for middleweight supremacy. It took more than two months of negotiations, but ultimately Jacobs was comfortable with the terms of an agreement to fight Golovkin in an HBO Pay-Per-View main event March 18 at Madison Square Garden.

I'm happy the fight was made, but I'm also disappointed that both boxers lost another opportunity to fight someone else (or each other) in December due to the prolonged negotiations. If the mandatory is supposed to get 25%, then it bothers me even more that Team Jacobs didn't just accept and try and beat the man to become the man and make millions as the new champ.

i didn't think that it was going to get made myself. they were trying to prick Jacob's out of fair money. glad it got resolved and now we have the best fight possible for both men. (TMT)

I'm glad it got made. It's the most significant fight at MW that can be made right now. I think of this fight more significant that GGG-Canelo even though that will be a bigger draw.

Also, I'm glad Jacobs mentions that there are other things besides the split that goes into negotiations. I hate talking about his stuff, but people always tend to assume that the problem is always about money when negotiations stall or take a long time. Money is a big part of it, but it isn't always the problem. I'm looking forward to this fight!!

Loeffleur was more than fair to Jacobs. Jacobs was asking too much. That is what the hold up was. But it finally got done. Jacobs kind of feels that GGG will derail his career so he wanted big money.
