Comments Thread For: How Joe Smith Jr. Became Boxing's Feel Good Story of 2016

By Jake Donovan - In a year where boxing often disappointed - and at times outright betrayed - its audience, the emergence of Joe Smith Jr, was a breath of fresh air. The manner in which he burst upon the scene and how he managed to remain highly relevant is the makings of boxing's feel-good story of 2016...

He ko'd Fonfara and Hopkins, both times he was an underdog. So it kind of is a big deal

Fonfara was no stiff; he gave Adonis Stevenson everything he could ask for. Smith may be limited, but he has power and with a few fights, he could make things interesting.

You don't hurt Fonfara and get away with it ! He will seek revenge, and you will find yourself on the seat of your trunks in return. Ending Fonfara in one round was huge!

I love it. This kid is a great story.

Just a big, strong, working class guy trying to come up in the boxing world. Like it used to be in America in the old days.

I think he has done enough to earn himself a title shot. Fonfara and Hopkins are two highly ranked scalps to have on your belt.
