Haymon wanted to get Daniel Jacobs the money that he wanted for the fight, as is the job of any manager worth their fee; if that meant having to control the event, so be it.

With the deadline fastly approaching, and Haymon/DiBella well in position to lay out a strong bid for the fight, K2 paid up to avoid the bid.

Jacobs gets his money, K2 salvages their realtionship with HBO, and everyone moves on to the fight.

Keep ignoring reality if you want.

Wrong. If haymon was in position to win the bid a la when he was to win Stevenson Kovalev he would have. Remember that that couldn't be in HBO because of Stevenson's relationship with showtime. Exact same scenario with Jacobs relationship with showtime. Haymon wasn't in position to do it so he didn't. He got the best deal he was able to broker on his side without the leverage.

Adonis Stevenson was the WBC champion, while Kovalev was the mandatory challenger. The WBC, differing to the champion, was more than happy to accelerate the bidding process when their champion, seeing that negotiations wouldn't be fruitful, wanted to move the process along quicker.

Also, no one ever said that Stevenson-Kovalev couldn't be on HBO; it was simply made clear that Yvon Michel was going to take the fight to whatever network that was willing to commit the money for the event and Showtime had far more financial interest in the fight than HBO ever had.

Daniel Jacobs is the WBA challenger; the WBA, as it's done in every part of this negotiation, has differed to the whims of K2/Golovkin, without waver.

After delay after delay, the WBA finally put forward the bid date, with K2 paying the price that Jacobs asked for within days of the actual bid deadline.

keep trying to spin if you want.

bottom line is haymon could have went to purse bid to control the fight but just didnt have the wherewithall to do it

If Haymon was able to secure the money that Daniel Jacobs was looking to get without the bid, why stall things to the bid?

At the end of the day, Al Haymon is manager/consultant to managers. Haymon doesn't have a venue that needs to be booked, isn't a TV executive looking for programming, or a host of other tasks related to actually putting on a fight. A manager works to get the best deal, in the interest of the fighter that they represent.

With Jacobs getting his asked for money (plus an alleged share of the upside on the event, if business booms), why worry with controlling the event?

K2 has to do the grunt work to sell out the venue, K2 has to make sure that HBO is willing to put the money up to properly market the fight, K2 has to spend their money on the promotional materials, K2 has to negotiate the international TV and sponsors, etc.

K2 bares the full financial risk for the fight, and that's without doubt.

Haymon & Co were obviously ready to bear the load (DiBella/BSE setting things prospectively with Barclays Center, Stephen Espinoza figuring out what the US TV package for the fight could look like, etc), but why put that on the camp if you've already got the money on the front end?
