1. Jacobs in March. Canelo beats Saunders in February for WBO belt.
2. Froch in June.
3. Canelo in September to completely unify 160
Now the next step is key:
4. Jack/Degale winner in December for two 168 belts.
5. Gilberto Ramirez for third 168 belt in march 2018.
6. Fourth belt at 168 in June to completely unify 168.
GGG will be 36 by then, probably be slightly past his prime, but may still have 1 or 2 years left at a high level. For those remaining years, after completely unifying 160 and 168, GGG could just take the biggest fights regardless of weight. Kovalev, Ward, etc etc.
That way GGG builds the foundation. Completely unify 160. Break title defense records. That's already great. Then unify 168 within a year, that will put him way up there, and no matter what happens after that, he will have a great legacy. And then from that foundation, he can just swing for the fences and go for a true top 10 all time resume, by seeing if he can beat 35 pound bigger guys at the age of 36, 37.
That's what I hope we see, in whatever order. Hopefully now that GGG is getting old, and especially if he beats Canelo, the guys at 168 will finally want to fight him. And then from there I hope he fights 4x a year the rest of his career and just goes up the ladder. From the best guys at 168 to the best guys at 175, maybe at a 170 catch weight for Ward, 173 for Kovalev because unlike Ward he's never made 168, etc etc. And just see how far GGG can take it. But I don't think people will give him full credit until he completely unifies 160 and beats a top guy at 168.
But, if he can get Degale/Jack winner, that guy will already have half the belts, so after that, why not just take it all the way? How many guys have completely unified 160 and 168? Degale/Jack winner gets you two belts, then Arum has already said Gilberto will fight GGG next year or after, so that's three belts you can get over a three month period. I think GGG will get a ton of credit if he doesn't just unify 160, but unifies 168 too.
but all that seems like an absolute pipe-dream.....
especially considering the fact that Golovkin was questioned about super middleweight immediately following the Brook fight and he totally refused to consider 168, saying "I am a small middleweight"
there is nothing to indicate any of that will happen
cool story bro
