I think of Cotto as someone who was cheated out of his prime in a fight that, for many, would have been a career-ender. I respect the fact the he made the effort, unlike the Margarito's and Canelo's of the world, to learn some English to broaden his appeal and marketability. That was smart. The fact that he can conduct press conferences in English shows his intelligence. The failure to recognize that fact shows a lack of intelligence.

I'm not a fan of all of his career moves, but I respect that he took control of his career. If he was a lesser fighter, his career would have been over in 2008. As a boxing fan, I'm glad it wasn't.

cotto will be remembered as a good fighter who lost all his big fights and dodged tougher opponents whenever possible. The Kirkland fight is a good example of a weak cotto looking for a payday and not a title fight. cotto will be remembered for getting his brain battered by the great Margarito losing all his big fights. nothing special and cotto will be a shell anyway in 10 years.
