His last two fights as well as his overall attitude has made me a fan! I look forward to seeing his next fight. Talk about a blue collar guy making good! What a refreshing change from all these pampered egos in the fight game today

Thank you Joe Smith for sending Hopkins out the right way KO

Joe Smith is now an American hero with his KO of bitter hateful old Hopkins. American boxing needs more of Joe Smith and his pure clean style of class and dignity brought to the boxing ring. Also more camera shots of Joe's beautiful mom would enhance any boxing production. All America cheers for joe Smith. Thanks Joe from so many of us who work for a living and pay taxes.

What does race have anything to with working hard and being a proud American? And you're ****ting on Hopkins? He paid his debt to society and turned his life around; and his job was a prize fighter which he worked hard at.

what a story this guy has. surprise knockout of fonfara when he was just brought in as a dangerous oppoenent, then he lands the dream fight and knocks hopkins out of the ring. now he's going to back to the union! can't make it up. he's been a very fortunate fighter in the sense that he's gotten great opportunities, but he did his job when he got those opportunities, and you have to credit him for that.

it's like saying "so and so got him his job." wrong. so and so got him the job interview. unless you're bussing tables a referral for a job is just that, a referral. it gets you in the door. joe smith got his referral to the hopkins fight. he got in shape in spite of the fact that he works as a contruction worker all year, and knocked hopkins out of the ring. now he's likely to make a few hundred thousand up to a cool couple million bucks before he retires from boxing.

It doesnt, anymore than when people commend someone for being a proud black man etc. Just like pointing out the hypocrisy of why one is OK and one is not.

Hopkins is still an ex con and he's still never had a real job like Joe Smith. Doesn't mean he hasnt paid his debt, but paying your debt doesnt put you on par with people who have never had a debt.

And some $20k paydays he was likely getting before this one were $4,200-$7,000 after all the deductions. Thats how taxes & boxing money works...we all know this. It doesn't change the fact the overwhelming majority (99.5%?) of fighters never even hear about a 6 figure purse or dealing with all the particulars of taxes & paying their people.
