No you don't, but Gonzalez has become a bit of an attraction. His tv numbers are decent and he sold over 6k tix for his last fight himself. That's more than Danny Jacobs or Andre Ward and those guys just got paid 3 and 5 mill each.

I can't see anyone in this sport today taking a fight of this caliber for under $500k.

Who cares if his show sold more tickets or got more ratings. His show more than likely did around a million in ticket sales. The promoter needs to pay the fighters and recoup his money from putting on the fight. So how can he get paid what he wants when his show barely did around a million in revenue. HBO doesn't pay boxers based on ratings, they pay based on what the fight is worth.
