I don't know about "promote" him, but HBO is heavily invested in the light heavyweight division, so I could see him getting more fights on the network.

Gvozdyk or Barrera would make some sense.

      Maybe Monahan, as was mentioned.

Someone drag Kelly Pavlik out of the bar, just make sire he doesn't have his BB gun on him and get him back in the ring with Joe Smith for the white trash title of the world!

Smith may always have an audience no matter who covers him, but I think he will always be at the tier 2 level but will lose to the elite. But always exciting.

Hopefully he gets some airtime I was impressed. He's not going to be in too many boring fights win or lose

Tyrone Biggums already beat this shtick to death, and he did it better.

I think everyone thinks now that hes "made" it that he will become a full time fighter and im sure it will help him develop into a more well round fighter maybe even get a new trainer.

My question is if people think HBO will start to promote this kid and air his fights as the A side since he is a very fan friendly fighter. The way he fights, his story everything is fan friendly. I just wonder if HBO will see it and add him to the list of fighters they basically promote. In the past this would be a no brainer that they would anymore though its like p4p fighters or bust and guys who they can do ppv with or future ppv. I cant remember the last US brawler they aired fights for as the A side

Hopefully for Joe Smith they give him a very winnable but fan friendly fight where hes the A side so he can start to build his star and make the money he deserves after going through the gauntlet and coming out on top. I think he has real potential he has real power he will always be raw but I do think he has potential to be somewhat of a star as far as for hardcores go. So more or less just wondering what u guys think will hbo promote him and also does this kid have a chance to be a more well rounded as a full time fighter. What you guys think?
Why would Joe Smith/Star Boxing tie themselves to an HBO Boxing property that's committing less and less money to boxing (while also not really having the fighters at 175lbs beyond Kovalev, and Top Rank's Sean Monaghan), when they've got good relationships with Showtime and PBC (with better fights available, tbh)?

Star Boxing is sharp enough to not close down any doors, but there's no reason for them to rush into anything (especially knowing that Joe Smith Jr can still sell tickets in NYC, with or without TV); let the Ward-Kovalev II fight happen, see where the 175lb titles end up, and move accordingly (on a fight-by-fight basis, betting on Joe Smith's talent to hold up).

Joe Smith Jr heads back to work (using the acclaim to build his profile further in the NYC area), keeps himself sharp in the gym, and likely takes whatever eliminator that best emerges for him by the early Spring (Star Boxing takes the fight back to NYC, likely partnering with DiBella Entertainment to put together a bigger show in NYC).

I doubt that HBO would have the date for him, but I can imagine PBC having a SpikeTV broadcast (or even a bigger ShoBox/smaller Showtime Championship Boxing broadcast from Showtime) for Joe Smith Jr.

watch your fingers is my only advice; Star Boxing already had the experience that they had with Chris Algieri (to get the Provodnikov shot, Star Boxing had to give up 3-4 options on Algieri to Banner Promotions, who then had to give up options to Top Rank to get cut in on the Pacquiao fight).

If it's not a straight-up fight, I'd advise Joe DeGuardia to let the phone ring and look for a better opportunity elsewhere (WBC path is a while off, and Beterbiev is positioned for the IBF path, so the WBO path [or simply emerging as a voluntary defense] would seem to make the most sense)
