Looking forward to boxing in 2017...

Although some will disagree, for me i think 2016 has been one of the worst years of following the sport, with a lack of competive match ups between world level fighters. Its a shame cause i dont think boxing is lacking talent wise, some serious depth to divisions like welterweight.

As such the running joke on this site (including by myself) is that next year is always the year to be great, whilst the current year sucks..
But its looking like a solid ****ing start to 2017 with santa cruz v frampton, joshua v klitscko, ggg v jacobs, garcia v thurman and some other good fights already announced. With a canelo v ggg match and a ward v kovalev rematch possible, this could actually turn out to be a great year for the sport.
Anyone else holding out high hopes? What realistic fights do people think could happen to make 2017 one of the best recent years? And what fighters do people think will really rise to prominence in 2017, or get 'exposed'? Please discuss ....

I just hope the fight with Ward Vs. Kovalev II is on a neutral ground where the bias is gone, lets have the rematch represent boxing not a side show because 58 clinches in a fight is unacceptable when Ward wasn't really hurt much in the fight.

Boxing will always have its problems but It can't get any worse than 2016 was so much shady stuff happening this year, bad decisions, excuse makers this was definitely a year where the UFC dominated boxing all across the board.

yeah brook v khan sounds like it might come off too! forgot about that one, big fight in world boxing but huge in UK. Tried to get tickets for wlad joshua today too but the online demand was crazy, website started crashing.

AJ Vs. GGG is the biggest PPV event to happen for 2017 not a single fight made will top that imho not even Canelo Vs. GGG beats that but you can only hope we get both of those in 2017.

Solid year coming up but I coulda did without a Frampton vs Santa Cruz rematch. I thought Frampton won a close but clear fight. I dont see what the big deal about that fight was either both are very limited and will lose to Gary Russel and Valdez.

dont think they are limited, especially frampton in terms of his skillset. Both world level fighters. Im looking forward to the fight but im not usually a massive fan of immediate rematches unless its controversial. Not sure 6 months or whatever it is is enough time for fighters to improve/adjust in order to make the fight much different to the first.

Yeah I was harsh on Frampton because it was a good victory for him, I just think he got hit A LOT by a very limited fighter in Santa Cruz. It was a good game plan he had but again its not hard to devise such a plan with a guy like LSC and Frampton didnt necessarily put on a masterpiece.
